Ingredients

  • 1 large French bread loaf or Italian bread
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F. Cut the bread loaf in half lengthwise, creating two long pieces. Place cut-side up on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  3. Generously spread the garlic butter mixture across both bread halves, reaching all the way to the edges. If using Parmesan cheese, sprinkle it evenly over the buttered surface.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the butter is bubbling.
  5. Remove from oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes before slicing into individual pieces.

Notes

Make the garlic butter mixture up to 3 days ahead and store covered in the refrigerator. Store leftover garlic bread wrapped in foil in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Freeze wrapped portions for up to 1 month. Reheat in a 350°F oven for 5-8 minutes to restore crispiness. Avoid using cold butter as it won't spread evenly and may tear the bread.
