Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend works best)
  • 4 packages instant ramen noodles, flavor packets reserved
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 2 soft-boiled eggs
  • 1 sheet nori, cut into strips
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha (optional)

Method

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and cook for 6-8 minutes until deeply browned. Don't rush this step – proper browning creates the foundation of flavor for your entire bowl.
  2. Push the browned beef to one side of the pan and add minced garlic and grated ginger to the cleared space. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Mix everything together and add soy sauce and sesame oil.
  3. While the beef simmers, bring a large pot of water to boil. Add the ramen noodles (discard flavor packets or save for another use) and cook for 2-3 minutes until just tender. Drain and divide between serving bowls.
  4. Spoon the seasoned ground beef over the noodles, making sure to include all those flavorful pan juices. Top each bowl with sliced green onions, soft-boiled eggs, nori strips, and a drizzle of sriracha if desired.

Notes

Don't overcook the noodles as they'll continue softening in the hot broth. Avoid overcrowding the beef in the pan to ensure proper browning. Store leftover components separately in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The beef mixture reheats beautifully in the microwave, while fresh noodles are best cooked just before serving. The seasoned ground beef freezes well for up to 3 months. Start boiling water for noodles while browning the beef to cut down total cooking time.
